New Baby on the Way? FAQ about Newborn Sessions, Answered

| Owen Sound & Grey-Bruce Baby Photographer |

Q: When should I book my newborn session?

It is recommended to reserve your session during pregnancy. I’ll hold space around your due date in my calendar, and we’ll confirm an exact session date once baby arrives.

Q: When does the session take place?

The ideal time is within the first 5-14 days after baby’s birth. During this timeframe, baby is still sleepy and tolerant of those sweet, curled up poses.
Newborn sessions are captured on weekday mornings.

Q: What if baby arrives earlier than expected, or past the due date?

No worries! It is rare for baby to arrive on time and I plan for this when booking newborn clients. Your due date simply reserves your spot. We’ll adjust once your little one is here.

Q: How long does a newborn session last?

Every baby is different, and all sessions are baby-led. Time is allotted for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing.
Expect up to 1 ½ hours for a Petite Session, and up to 3 hours for the Essentials/Full Session.

Q: What should we expect?

A prep guide is provided prior to the session to outline how to prepare and what to expect.
Your baby’s safety and comfort are my #1 priority. You can trust that I have over 16 years of experience in the industry, and have photographed hundreds of newborns. I am very hands-on with your baby during the session, and am confident in my abilities to soothe, settle, and pose them safely. There may be a certain pose or two when I may ask for another set of eyes or hands, but my hope is that you can sit back and relax, watch, and enjoy the session experience.

Q: Can parents and siblings participate in the session?

There are two package offerings available — one for baby only, and one that includes parent and sibling shots, if desired.
When older siblings are participating, I tend to capture family and sibling poses at the very beginning of the session, so that the siblings are then free to leave while I devote the remainder of the session to individual shots of baby.

Q: What do we need to bring?

I have most things covered!
Wraps, blankets, bonnets, head bands, and simple props are all provided. I do provide a prep guide ahead of your session to help you prepare.
